徐研主要研究比较和国际政治经济学，特别是科技和创新、产业竞争、全球供应链和政府-企业关系。他正在完成一部关于中国科技创业创新的书稿，特别是国家如何利用“硅谷模式”—初创型企业和创业投资—发展高科技产业（例如半导体和生物医药）。这项研究展现国家对金融的干预可以和活跃的创业结合起来，同时展示了创业的增长如何影响后发国家在技术密集型产业的发展。除此以外，徐研博士还研究过全球芯片业的政治以及中国政府和富豪的关系。他的研究见刊于Politics & Society和Socio-Economic Review并获得Stand Together和芝加哥大学东亚研究中心和George J. Stigler经济和国家研究中心的支持。他在芝加哥大学获得政治学博士学位并在清华大学获得硕士和学士学位。
